How to remove hidden details from photos and videos
Photos and clips carry the phone, the date, the place and the app that made them. How to remove all of it for free, and crop or convert videos for any site.
Every photo and video carries details you cannot see: the phone or camera that took it, the date and time, often the exact place, and the app or tool that made or edited it. Post the file as it is and anyone who downloads it can read them.
The short answer
Remove them before you post. Sable's Clean files does it for free, for pictures and videos, up to 20 at a time.
How to do it
- Open Clean files.
- Drop in up to 20 pictures or videos. Pictures: JPG, PNG, WebP and iPhone photos (HEIC) up to 40 MB. Videos: MP4, MOV and WebM up to 300 MB.
- To crop, pick a shape under Crop to: 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Stories, 4:5 for Instagram posts, 1:1 square or 16:9 for YouTube. Drag the frame on each file to choose what stays.
- If a site says it cannot read your video, open Advanced settings and choose Re-encode to MP4. This fixes the HEVC videos iPhones and TikTok often make, which Instagram's website refuses.
- Press Clean them, then download each file or all of them at once.
Good to know
- Without a crop or a re-encode, nothing in the picture or the sound is changed or compressed again.
- An iPhone photo comes back as a JPG, so it opens everywhere.
- Everything you make in Sable is already cleaned before you download it. Clean files is for files from your phone, another app or another tool.
- Removing hidden details does not change a site's rules. If a site asks you to label AI content, label it.
